A Summer Scotland Elopement: a Canadian Couple’s Adventurous Wedding

M & M flew all the way from Canada to elope in Outlander country. Super fans of the show, they fell in love with the romance and history of the Scottish landscape, so they decided to get married here!

I’m Lauren and I’m an Edinburgh-based elopement photographer. Here’s what this couple’s intimate wedding day looked like.

Getting Ready in Edinburgh’s Old Town

The couple got ready in the same Canonmills apartment, with the bride (and her best friend) in one room and the groom in the other. It was a relaxed affair, with lots of laughter and excitement filling the air. The bride looked incredible in an elegant strapless dress with sheer opera gloves, while the groom looked effortlessly cool in an all-black suit and black shirt, paired with black Nike trainers.

The lovely big-bearded celebrant, Andrew Scott, took the groom out for a morning pint before the ceremony in a lovely gesture to help calm the nerves!

They had their first look outside the apartment, which was very heartfelt and sweet.

Journey to Arthur’s Seat

We then all hopped into a taxi and headed to Arthur’s Seat, where we hiked to St Anthony’s Chapel Ruins together. It was a beautiful, sunny and warm day, making the Scottish landscape as much of a feature as the couple themselves.

Intimate Ceremony on Arthur’s Seat

While the couple had been legally married back in Canada, they treated their Edinburgh elopement like the real thing. They exchanged tender, heartfelt vows that had us all laughing and crying in equal measure, and their new wedding rings that they had saved for the day.

Exploring Edinburgh After the Ceremony

After their ceremony, we all headed into Edinburgh to explore the historic streets. We strolled down the Royal Mile and Cockburn Street, with the newly-weds getting congratulated by well-wishers as they went. They paused to admire Edinburgh Castle in all its glory as well as the Writers’ Museum.

Private Drinks at The Spence & Dining at the Witchery

After a leisurely stroll basking in the summer sun and the warm glow of love, the couple admired the historic architecture on St Andrews Square as they headed to The Spence to enjoy private celebratory drinks.

In the evening, they went to The Witchery for atmospheric fine dining, a romantic intimate ending to their wedding day.

After their intimate Edinburgh elopement, the couple went on an adventure across Scotland, visiting some of the historic sites featured in Outlander, combining their love for the show with the adventure of their new life together.
